As the Novel Coronavirus has already taken a huge toll on Indians and has shaken the healthcare sector to its core, almost all states are lacking the basic necessary resources for treatment and their movement around the cities. Karnataka is also highly affected by the second wave of COVID-19, especially the capital city, Bengaluru. On Tuesday, 11th May 2021, Karnataka reported 39,305 fresh corona positive cases and 596 deaths, out of which 15,879 cases were reported by Bengaluru itself (Source: The Indian Express).
Amidst such heart-wrenching news coming from all over the state and chaos in its entire healthcare sector, we have received some wholesome news from Bengaluru which is winning all our hearts.
A Bangalore-based bike rental startup has made it its mission to deliver oxygen cylinders immediately for free to cater to the life-saving needs of oxygen for COVID-19 patients who are in a critical condition, on motorcycles. They have started operating and delivering in rural and remote areas of Bengaluru from 12 am to 6 am.
Mr. Amit Purohit, the co-founder of Swag Bikes, has stated that Swag bikes is ‘sourcing and delivering oxygen for free.’ Thus bolstering the declining health of the patients. Looking at the sudden rise in demand for oxygen cylinders, he also stated that they received 600+ calls in the last 24 hours making the operation hectic for a small team, but this troop is working tirelessly.
This startup is also providing free bikes to the COVID-19 frontline Medical/Municipal/Police personnel and the team can be reached out on their website www.swagbikes.in for up to 3 months.
The team also shared some good news on their Twitter handle about saving a patient’s life in an emergency within 42 minutes of the call on their Emergency Response Team helpline (ERT line)
