Ganesh Chathurthi, one of the most celebrated festivals in India signifying the birth of Lord Ganesha is celebrated by placing idols of Lord Ganesha for 10 days and offering prayers. Later the idols are immersed in water bodies to mark the end of the festival.

But due to the current situation in the country due to COVID -19, everyone is restricted to celebrate the festival outdoors and are bound to celebrate the festival in one’s residence with the family members.

The main reason for the government avoiding the celebration of the festival outdoors is to avoid huge gatherings as this may lead to spreading of the virus as we all know that the transmission of the virus is in the community spread stage.

The government has passed orders in major cities of the country to not place the idols of Lord Ganesha in the streets and also restricted the size of the idol if placed.

The pandemic has also affected the lives of those artisans who sculpt the idols there as strict orders by the government to avoid placing huge idols in the communities.

Some artisans preserve their earnings by selling the idols once a year and this pandemic has brought in a huge loss to them which was unexpected.

It was also witnessed that the famous Ganesh idol placed in Hyderabad at Khairtabad which was planned to be around 66 feet of height this year is know been reduced to the height of 9 feet to avoid the huge gathering as people from around the city and outside the city come to witness the idol and the celebrations.

There are also many restrictions placed on Nimarjan of The Idols this year.

Hoping that this Ganesh Chaturthi brings joy to our lives as Lord Ganesha who is believed to be the god of new beginnings and paves the way clearing out all the obstacles in life for us to move forward.
