Self-love. Something which we can give ourselves for a better living. These days self-love is mis-conceptualized and mis-represented through one’s actions which may include treating themselves with good food or posting pictures and writing captions about self-love and many more things.
But the true question arises that are we truly loving ourselves or are we showcasing ourselves to be self-loved. Self-love is a wide concept and varies from one’s perspective to others based on their past and present living experience.
It is also when you’re not letting yourself settle to something less than what you truly deserve. Self-love and compassion towards oneself are very important and play a key role in keeping ourselves fit both mentally and physically.
Often, we consider self-love as selfishness. That is because we think that the people who love themselves more than anything else are considered to be self-dependent over emotions, overly confident about themselves, self-absorbed, and who always keep their own necessities as their priority and voice their opinion firmly about themselves.
Here they are just valuing themselves considering no less than others.
So basically, loving yourself doesn’t make you selfish but overly loving yourself and considering that your emotions towards yourself are the only superior ones might lead to becoming selfish about yourself. And it clearly depends on the individual about creating a distinction between giving yourself self-love and becoming selfish.
Is self-love good or bad ?
Self-love is absolutely one best way to satisfy your own emotional needs and you’re not in the wait to get them satisfied by depending on other external factors.
But sometimes excess self-love might also harm you as you set certain boundaries through your emotions and you get habituated by the way you adapt to them which at a point exceeded will not let you explore the love you receive from other things.
Self-love can keep an individual balanced in terms of mental well being and helps is easy processing of negative emotions.
So, it completely depends on ourselves how much self-loved we want to be by not getting affected negatively at the same time.
Finally, loving yourself must surely be your primary goal but not over loving yourself because through self-love you’re basically putting yourself first in making choices and improving yourself which ultimately improves the quality of your lives.
Knowing how to provide self-love to yourself totally depends on you as mentioned earlier it varies from individual to individual.
For some self-love might be accepting the way they are and for some, it might be working towards the betterment and taking care of themselves. But in the era of seeking and finding love from others it is better we first love, protect and forgive ourselves and just focus on what we need rather than what we want by not being selfish though.
