Soon after the troops of United States and NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organization) started vacating from Afghanistan, Taliban has started seizing various provinces of the country. On Sunday, the Taliban has entered the country’s capital, Kabul, and gained control over it.
A Taliban official has confirmed that Taliban has taken control over the country and is going to declare “Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan” soon. It is expected that the declaration is made from the presidential palace in Kabul after the escape of Afghanistan President, Ashraf Ghani, whose current location is unknown.
The United States invaded Afghanistan after the September 11 attacks in 2001 with the aim of dismantling Al-Qaeda and removing Taliban from power in Afghanistan. After having been at war for 19 years, the United States and Taliban have signed the Doha Agreement on February 29, 2020, for bringing peace to Afghanistan.
The US has promised to withdraw all of its troops by September 11 but because of early withdrawal and not establishing proper connections between Afghan Government and Taliban; the US has failed in its objectives.
The ideological differences between Taliban and Afghanistan government for the administration of the country is what added fuel to the fire. The Afganistan Government wanted to establish a constitution for the evolving society which is seen as a copy of western culture by the Taliban who wanted an ortodox Islamic system.
Even though the Taliban has promised that it will prevent the use of Afghanistan soil by any group or individual to attack US or its allies, the total seizure of the country by Taliban has created a sense of insecurity to every country including those applauded the Doha Agreement like China, Russia, Pakistan, etc. The negotiations done between Taliban and Afghan Government have not yielded good results because of large time gap taken between negotiating sides.
As the attacks and conflicts in the country are still alive, the complete blame will be on the United States because of its failed attempts of bringing peace to Afghanistan by the Doha agreement.
