Bharti Airtel to collaborate with Intel for the development of 5G in India

5G has now been a talk for quite a long time. People are eagerly waiting to get a better network and the network providers are already competing over it. Recently Bharti Airtel and Intel declared that they will work together to develop 5G network by vRAN (Virtualized Radio Access Network) and O-RAN (Open Radio Access Network tools.

Airtel is leading the trials of the 5G network in some of the selected major cities. The collaboration with Intel will be a part of the journey of the company to provide 5G network all over the nation to its customers enabling their experience to reach greater heights in cloud gaming and upload and download speed.

Airtel’s aim as a member of O-RAN Alliance stands at working with Intel closely and developing a fine range of Make in India 5G solutions and establishing world class telecom infrastructure through the local partners. “Intel’s cutting-edge technologies and experience will contribute immensely to Airtel’s mission of serving India with world-class 5G services. We also look forward to working with Intel and home-grown companies to unlock India’s potential as a global 5G hub,” Said the Chief Technology Officer at Bharti Airtel, Randeep Sekhon.

To turn this goal into reality Airtel has collaborated with Intel which will lead Airtel to use Intel’s 3rd gen Xeon scalable processors, Ethernet 800 series, FPGA (Field Programmable Gate Array) and eASICs which is an intermediary technology between FPGAs and standard-cell ASICs (Application Specific Integrated Circuits) all over its network which will lead to a solid base for the 5G network to provide wide coverage with high level performance.

India has relatively more number of telecom companies and service providers than many other countries. Moreover the population is only second to China which creates a big market for these companies along with the healthy competition that sometimes benefits the customers. According to a report, India has 560 million active internet users. The introduction of 5G will take this market to a whole new level. Thus if Airtel gets successful in its plans it can provide it an edge over the competitors making it earn more money for the near future.
