Netflix expected to launch game streaming on its platform without adding charges

Netflix is undoubtedly one of the major and biggest video streaming platforms in the world. While facing competition from its rivals including Amazon’s Prime Video, Disney+ hotstar, Zee5, Hulu, HBO Max and others. Netflix continuously tries to distinguish itself from  others by providing different features and better experience to its users with more options of movies and shows. This time Netflix has planned to expand its business and enter into video game streaming. Netflix is expected to launch its video game streaming on its platform for no extra charges.

Mike Verdu, former vice president in charge at Facebook’s game development will be joining Netflix as vice president of game development. In past he has worked as the chief creative officer at Zynga from  2009 to 2012. He has worked on widely known games at Electronic Arts. The games includes Plants vs. Zombies, Sims, along with the Star Wars franchises.

The games will be added as a new genre by Netflix as it did previously with documentaries and standup shows. After this news was made public by Bloomberg, Netflix stocks gained upto 3.3%. However in its recent quarter Netflix recorded less new subscribers than expected. Thus at this time getting into games will be a good move by the video streaming giant to get back on its track of achieving the targets. The company has started its search for the proper team as it announced the game development positions on its website.

The company will most probably gain more customers as they are doing something which none of the company’s rivals including big names such as Disney and Amazon are doing. The other platforms cover action and sports genre but Netflix will actually provide the gaming service of those types which would make a great difference.

It will not just increase its customers but also will make a lot of money. Though Netflix is expected to start its gaming service for no extra cost, it might add the cost when the users become familiar with the concept and they could not help but pay the money. Also as soon as the news has been made public the stocks have started moving and surely the no extra cost is not hurting Netflix.

Netflix might face problems while releasing it on for iOS as other platform had faced in the past. Thus it will also be a challenge of not to get cloud gaming rejected by the Apple App Store.

In future if the idea goes well Netflix is also expected to launch some of its own originals. However for the start, Netflix will begin with a small library. If everything works as planned by Netflix the user time on the platform, that is the time which one spends on Netflix might also increase. which is not good for anyone (but Netflix). With already having a support of 208 million subscribers, Netflix will now look on reaching the heights that once looked impossible.
