No, I am not talking about the game! I am talking about the recent show, which is on NETFLIX on the 27th of April 2020. NEVER HAVE I EVER is about the complicated life of an Indian-American Girl, who is a teen obviously and an Indian family, who settles in America right after their marriage.
This show revolves around the story where the teen hold their own fantasies of life and how they dwell in them. The lead role (Devi) who is a teenage girl, and her two amazing friends who are called as the UN gang in their high-school, they go waging from being these nerds to owning a boyfriend.
In this process of the story Devi looses her father at her school event while she was performing on the stage because of a heart-attack and within the same week her legs go paralyzed for about three months. So, after three months she goes back to high school hoping she would re-make her life by getting into parties and living the actual life of a high school teenager.
But, her past keeps reckoning her at a different phase, instead of going through the loss of her father’s death she tries to forget it and keeps moving on or tries escaping it, in this process she encounters many situations in her high school life. She gets in touch with the hottest guy in her high school and she likes the limelight on her, which would lead to a self-created rumor, which puts her in an unpleasant place at the of day.
Being an Indian, it shows the restriction imposed by her mother, as the culture of this country and the country they live in very different and it shows how she goes past all the limitations and breaks few rules, puts up rage and fight with her mother and friends.
At the end it shows that fame is not important, when you have caring friends and a beautiful family willing to give in everything for you and help you deal with life. It is a beautifully written and directed show; it is short, neat and clean played. NEVER HAVE I EVER is on the top 10 list of shows to be binge watched on NETFLIX, so grab your popcorn and slip in right away.
