Android users, this one is for you. We all know, 2021 has been a very good year for Samsung. We got the top-notch smartphones, and now it is time for smartwatches. After almost 4 years, Samsung is back with its new smartwatch. 2018 was the last date when galaxy watch 3 was released and the world has been waiting ever since. But here we are now.
Samsung previously used to work with Tizen. But in 2021, Samsung ditched its previous partners and joined hands with Google to give us the new generation Wear OS we all need.
A few days back, we did a review on Fossil Gen 6. Both the watches are competing head-to-head for the top spot. So how is Galaxy Watch 4 doing so far? Let’s find out.
Specification and usage of samsung watch 4:
The watch comes in 2 new models- Galaxy watch 4 and Galaxy watch 4 classics. Both the designs come in different sizes. Galaxy watch 4 starts from the 40 mm model and goes up to 44 mm. Both come in lite versions. As for the classics, the watches start from 42 mm and go up to 46 mm. And just like the previous one, both the designs come in Lite versions. Two casing sizes come with two different display sizes, unlike the fossil watches. With the 42mm build sporting a 1.19in 396×396 circular screen and the 46mm version toting a 1.36in panel, with a 450 x 450 resolution.
As for the normal watch, it is just a touch screen, but in the classic model, you get a rotatory Bezel, with small click buttons on them.
Galaxy Watch 4 now runs on Wear OS with a customised UI. The watch is powered with Samsung’s Fresh 5 nanometre exodus w920 chipset designed specifically for Smart watches. RAM is 1.5 GB. The hardware here is IP68 dust and water-resistant up to 5ATM and MIL-STD-810G certified.
The watch can measure your heart rate and blood oxygen. The ECG feature and Afib (irregular heartbeat) detection are also available. Samsung also got us a new BIA (bioelectrical impedance analysis) sensor, which adds body composition analysis to the Galaxy Watch’s already long list of fitness and wellbeing features.
How will Galaxy watches benefit users?
Samsung always gives us the best of the deals. So, what is so special about the Galaxy watch 4. After hearing the news of Samsung and Google pairing up, we all knew the wearable OS was going to be a bomb. And we were all right, and this changed the entire game for the watch. Not only it has much more features, it is also much smoother and faster than before.
If you are a Samsung Smartphone user, then this watch is perfect for you. It can be easily paired with your phone in no time and you can use all features with ease.
The watch comes packed with many features, both as a smartwatch and in the department of health. You will also get lots of watch faces in default. This is a great advantage to Fossil watches. You can also customise the watch faces if you want.
What are the drawbacks in the new Samsung watch 4 smartwatches?
Although the watch is a fan favourite, it also has some drawbacks. This watch only works with android phones. Unlike previous watches, the iPhone is not supported with this. Most of the default apps on this watch are Samsung apps. Some of them are replaceable with google apps, but mostly not.
Although the watch is compatible with android phones, if you want to use it with other phones except Samsung, you need to install Samsung’s wearable app. Not only that, then you will have to install the Galaxy Watch plugin. Apart from these two, if you use the watch for your fitness related stuff, you need to install the Samsung health app.
The watch has a virtual assistant Bixby, but for that you will need to have a Samsung account. Also, for using the Samsung pay feature on the watch, you need Samsung pay on your android phone. In short, whoever does not use a Samsung phone has to look forward to a long day ahead just setting up the watch.
Another drawback has to be with the health features. They have a lot of new features for the health department, but many users have complained they are not accurate every time. So, it is better not to get alarmed and rush to emergency rooms just because your watch says so.
Pricing and Availability:
The watch is available on Samsung website and in stores. You can also get them on Amazon and get some discounts over MRPs. The watches come in a variety of price ranges. The 40 mm model starts from $249.99 and 44 mm at $279.99. For LTE versions, $299.99 and $329.99. As for the classics, the 42 mm model starts at $349.99and 46 mm at $379.99. For LTE versions, it is $399.99 and $429.99.
Apart from the sizes, we get an option of 3 different colours for the watch band. You can choose between black, white and rose gold for the 40 mm model. As for 44mm you get to choose from black, silver and green. You get only 2 options both for the 42 mm model and 46 mm model which is black and silver.
Where do we stand on this product?
Undoubtedly, this is one of the best watches in the market right now. Right after the announcement of the watch, people had high expectations. The watch almost stood up to all expectations. But coming from such a reputed company, the watch could have been better.
Although the model is very satisfying, we cannot wait for the next generation to come out. If you want to check options from any other brands, check out our Fossil gen 6 article.
