WhatsApp’s Fact-Checker Bot to Keep a Check For Spread of Fake News

1.6 Billion users use the WhatsApp application actively and are one of the most popular applications ever made. Over the years, WhatsApp is trying to stop fake news and rumors. The company has taken many steps in the past to curb the spread of fake news and fight misinformation and the latest effort is the addition of a fact-checker bot in collaboration with Poynter Institute’s International Fact-Checkers Network (IFCN).

Since January, IFCN’S Corona virus facts Alliance has been using the community for fact checking community to help users find what is true and what is not.

This Chat bot also let’s you search for fact checks, also view the latest fact-checks near your location and also help people to fight misinformation. One noteworthy tip that I’ve seen in IFCN bot is to trust scientists before politicians.

You can get started by sending a “Hi” message to 1 (727) 2912606. Once you get to the conversation screen, you may enter your query to get relevant fact-checks performed regarding it.

Next time you receive or hear bizarre news as magical corona virus remedies or 5G towers mistaken to spread corona virus, This WhatsApp Fact-checker bot may come in Handy to make a correct judgement rather than just going into conclusions just because the message says a public figure or institute has claimed so.
