8 Asian Lions Tested Positive at Hyderabad Nehru Zoological Park

Eight Asian lions at Hyderabad’s Nehru Zoological Park have been tested positive for the deadly novel Coronavirus. This is the first case of humans infecting animals and making them sick in India.

According to sources, the zoo veterinarians caught the lions showing COVID-19 like symptoms from the last week of April. The Nehru Zoological Park includes 12 lions. 8 among were found with mild symptoms and with nasal discharge, along with loss of taste. According to the observation, zoo authorities got the lions tested for COVID-19

Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) said in a statement, “At this time, there is no evidence that animals play a significant role in spreading SARS-CoV-2 to people. Based on the available information till date, the risk of animals spreading COVID-19 to people is considered to be low. More studies are needed to understand if and how different animals can be affected by SARS-CoV-2. ”

The above statement is quite ruined, and we desire to protect all rare species which exists at some places in Indian Zoo park’s.

“Yup! lions tested positive after displaying mild symptoms. As of now they are active and are doing great. It housed four male and four female big cats in the 40-acre Safari region inside the zoo park”.

“It might be transferred from zookeepers while providing meat to these lions”. There were almost 1000 animals of different varieties spread nearly 400 acres of Hyderabad Zoo park. Said most of the Zoo employees tested positive in the recent past.

“The Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology (CCMB) informed forest officers over the phone that the RT-PCR tests of these lions were positive. And the whole team is ready to investigate, whether the strain came from humans or not

Based on the orders of the Telangana government, it was decided that the Nehru Zoological Park in Hyderabad, the Kakatiya Zoological Park in Warangal, Kawal and Amrabad Tiger Reserves, and all National and Wildlife Sanctuaries in the state of Telangana government need to take precautionary measure to prevent the spread of virus among wildlife.
