Assaulted to Death for Making Self Choices; Maybe the New Definition for Politics in India

Elections the only thing which you would not want to be a part of amid the current situation in India due to the Pandemic. A rising number of Covid-19 cases are leading to deaths and a shortage of Oxygen supply all over the country.

But that has not stopped our government to conduct their pre-election rallies and the final elections. But that is not the end of the story. Post the elections in West Bengal the state has seen terror in the form of assaults, harassment, rape, and murder. Is this how our governments run?

The general elections for the Legislative Assembly of West Bengal in West Bengal were held from 27th March 2021 to 29th April 2021. Amid the Covid-19 pandemic this election has become an issue and also the Government of West Bengal was accused of conducting elections in a vague manner keeping in mind the number of positive cases and deaths in the state.

After the hike in the Covid-19 cases, the Election Commission banned all the political rallies and public meetings. Still, the rallies were continued and until April 23rd when the country was weeping over the Covid deaths, the Prime Minister of India went ahead to wrap up his rallies in Malda, Murshidabad, Sewli, and South Kolkata for his party BJP. In the end, the government won by conducting the elections successfully but failed to take care of its people.

On May 2nd, 2021 the results were announced and Mamata Banerjee chairperson of Trinamool Congress paved her way for one of the biggest political victories as a Chief Minister. But what happened after the results were announced disheartens everyone.

Both the party members and supporters came on the roads taking revenge to calm themselves by harassing women. Also, the goons joined the team to torcher people.

Several party workers are dead and injured through this process including women. Women are being hit to the ground and are assaulted until they bleed.

Some are raped and killed. There was a firebombing with bamboo poles at the opponent’s party offices and the buildings were burned down. People started stealing from the stores by harassing the owners.

Women are gang-raped to death. People forcefully started entering houses and destroyed things. They started touching women inappropriately, were molested and some were carried away who are still reported to be missing.

They are thrashed to the ground and are battered until they are severely injured. Is this all happening just because people made their own choices and stood up for themselves by working and voting for the party they wish to rule?

The situation is dreadful and none stand up to speak against it. If this is how democracy in India has to work then maybe they should think over it again. Already the country is seeing some bad days due to the pandemic and is mourning over the misery adding up to this.

West Bengal had to see such a dark day filled with anguish and had to face many hardships.
