Final Year Exams at the cost of Human Lives

Exam Writing

Okay! It’s been very busy for us, though we spent most of our time at home. So what’s happening? What decisions are being taken from our leaders for the situation right now?

Firstly, the Indian government removed lockdown at the wrong time (due to the immense pressure of revenue), starting with opening the wine shops and expecting the public to maintain distance standing in lines for hours is lame and they want to control the spread of the virus. Next, allowed the inter-state movements without taking any precautions. Twists and turns on exams! Though they have majorly promoted everyone, the Telangana government now, decided to conduct exams for all UG and PG final year students.

Keeping these shocking decisions apart, earlier today we got a piece of news that over 2,200 COVID-19 patients who were under home quarantine are missing in Hyderabad. Officials also stated that some of these patients have registered their names with wrong contact numbers and wrong residential address. Thinking about the facts, there is no logic of registering with the wrong contact number as the home quarantined patients are firstly registered with a call. Talking about their residential address, even their Aadhaar number is registered and they can track them within seconds. And talking about the count that they have missed is massive i.e., 2,200 COVID-19 patients. This statement alone says how well the management is going on right now in Telangana. The officials even don’t know whether the missing patients are alive or not.

And the situation now is totally out of control, and students from different cities and villages went back to their hometowns. And now all the final year students of UG and PG should come back to their colleges.

Is there any risk in conducting exams?

Of course yes! Starting with traveling from other cities to the college, taking a room which has been used by others, buying some food and water from outside, traveling to college, taking papers which have been passed from many hands, and maintaining social distance in colleges will be a tough task to anyone, and these actions possess a high risk of transmission of the virus. Though the government has conducted many meetings on reviewing exams, they have decided to conduct exams to final year students.

Is the situation is getting better?

A big NO for the above question. Because we can see India touching one million COVID-19 cases recently and the new cases daily have no stop. Every day is a new record for the new cases in India and hundreds of people are dying daily(though we are not sure about the death rate other than what government shows us). At this stage, conducting exams will a tough and dumbest call from the government if anything worse happens to students.

Can the guidelines protect students?

No again! As we can clearly see what’s happening now in India, though many guidelines have been proposed and suggested before removing the lockdown, the government failed to keep an eye on it. So we cannot trust everyone to follow the guidelines, particularly not in colleges as the affection between friends will blindfold them.

The decision made by the government is totally not fair, forcing students to choose between their life and career. Some people trust in saying that career is life but trust me holding back for one year is not going to decide your career. These exams are literally helping no one. Exams are conducted to build a good future but not at the cost of risking your lives.
