Forensic science holds an insignificant place in the GK of the Indian population

Forensic science

I am pretty sure not everyone reading this is aware of the profession, Forensic Science. And for most of the people, who think they know about it, assume it to be TV shows of CID and CSI.

Forensic science is more authentic and real than that telecasted on such shows. The criminal shall get punished and justice will be delivered to the victim, only through scientific evidence presented by the department of forensic science.

Ever wondered why there is a delay in delivering justice? Or why there are multiple hearings for a single case?

It is because the judge gets to hear arguments from both parties and the investigating team fails in producing facts and evidence. And in the majority of cases, it is a conditional biased judgment passed, when there is no evidence.

Baseless statements and arguments are of no use to the court. The court requires facts and evidence. Irrespective of how good the prosecutor or the defence lawyer is, you need to submit proof and solid scientific evidence after a thorough examination, to prove innocence or guilt.

The greatest failure of forensic science is the lack of awareness in the public. Most of us don’t even know that there is a bachelor’s degree for the same.

Amidst the existing problems and drawbacks, the employment of forensic science graduates is at stake. Companies offer jobs specific to forensic science to any person holding a science degree.

This is NOT FAIR! A microbiology or biotech candidate is no way on par with a forensic science student.

You need a B.Tech for engineering, MBBS for medical, and similarly a B.Sc in forensic science for you to be worthy of respective jobs and designations. And there is no bargaining at that.

Forensic science isn’t just limited to laboratory work. It is a widespread multi-disciplinary branch of science associated with the legal system. From blood, DNA to toxic substances and forged documents, you need forensic science for everything and anything.

Police officers are neither trained nor aware of all the protocols to be followed at a scene of crime. Technically, police officers should be trained in domains of forensic science and crime scene handling to an extent, to prevent the tampering and contamination of tangible evidence.

But why isn’t it being implemented, is a matter of query. And if you practically watch crime and court proceedings, forensics are not given that minimum importance shown in movies.

How can you tamper or lose evidence? Do any of us understand the seriousness of the situation? Like how important it is for the right judgement?

One thing I can vouch for is you cannot deliver justice if you neglect forensic science. At least certain unusual stuff will start making sense to you.

The government has to be pro-active in developing and advancing this stream of science for the nation’s progress w.r.t crime rate and safety of the population.

I can’t resist giving this example, but it is much needed. Isn’t it ridiculous that the Nirbhaya case in 2012 finds its justice in 2020, though people claim to have produced all evidence in a very short time, judgment wasn’t that quick.

The statement justice delayed is justice denied is a precursor for the introduction of forensic science. But we aren’t doing any good without giving the importance it deserves.

Since I am studying the subject, I am not bound to endorse or advertise it. But when the sanctity of functioning of the society is questioned, we got to look into important issues.

If we’d give quarter the importance we give to fashion courses and engineering courses, it’d help inefficient functioning of law and order and the welfare of people.
