The first thing one does after waking up from sleep every day is connecting the devices to the internet and checking the updates. But what if the internet is down? Could you imagine life without the internet? In the present from a toddler to an old man, everyone is exposed to the internet and it has become more of a necessity for everyone.
We all know that there is no other version for the internet which we could rely on and for the upcoming generation they do not know life before or without the internet.
It is difficult to imagine a life without the internet as without its presence many businesses would shut down, the markets would collapse, there would be a recession worldwide and just imagine the number of people who would lose their jobs. Let’s assume that the internet has stopped functioning what would be the consequences:
Access to Information:
The Internet provides access to all kinds of information. It can be related to your daily finances, education, news, health, law and order, work, and commerce. Just imagine standing in a queue in front of the banks to get a statement of your daily transactions or reading a newspaper every morning to know what has happened around the world. You would also have to start visiting the physical stores for your shopping needs.
Social Life:
Making plans and Hanging out with friends and family has become so easy after getting access to the internet. You are just a text away from meeting your loved ones. Without the internet maybe you would have to start writing letters and decide the date and time after receiving a reply and sending it back through letters. And if you want to look at the person it would become necessary to meet the person as no internet means no video calls.
General Information:
These days if we do not know anything we just say “Okay Google can you tell me...” and voila you have the information right on your gadget screens. The Internet has become like an online library where you can seek any kind of information just by a click. And without the internet, you wouldn’t want to spend a whole day sitting in the library to know the history of your country.
Social Media:
One of the main reasons why individuals want to use the internet. Imagine a day without Instagram or WhatsApp or Facebook. The Internet has become the only tool that can provide access to social media and in one way keeps people connected via text messages and calls.
Work:
It would be very accurate to say that no internet means no work. Apart from the physical tasks, no other alternative is available which keeps your work going. If you had to send an Email and no internet then that’s the end of the game. It would take days to complete a task or a project without the internet and productivity would be badly affected. Some companies which purely work with the internet as their base would have to shut down their businesses if the internet would vanish.
Also disconnecting from the internet would connect you back to those days where your mother would scold you for playing for a long time outside rather than studying in a library. Computer typing would not be required and using a pen and paper to write messages and sending them overseas would give more thrills. The usage of the internet has both pros and cons so depends on the people how they utilize the service. But practically speaking the internet has connected us to the outside world and made our lives so simpler that a day without the internet couldn’t be imagined.
