The death of a pregnant elephant is making everyone disturbed. After a week, this incident came into limelight when Mohan Krishnan, a local forest officer, has shared on his Facebook page.

Actually, this elephant which originally belonged to the Silent Valley National Park in Palakkad had wandered in search of food and reached the border area. Immediately, forest officials brought two captive elephants, Surendran and Neelakantan to bring it out from the river. But no use, as its lungs were filled with water due to suffocation the elephant lost its life.
“She had a sixth sense that she was going to die. She took the Jala Samadhi (Water Grave) in the river in a standing position” – an emotional note posted by Mohan Krishnan, Section forest officer, Nilambur.
After this to complete the death formalities, the doctor who did autopsy has expressed emotionally that it was not alone, She is carrying a baby in her Womb. Heart-wrenching incident and according to the NDTV reports, forest officer Aashique Ali said that they don’t know when the incident happened.
But because of the starvation and shrinking of the elephant, it would have happened 20 days ago. According to Wildlife protection Act, 1972 wild elephants come under Schedule I, which are protected species. Any offence will leads to a high penalty.
On the other note, a few journalists and people are posting that fruit filled with firecrackers given to the elephant by locals are completely wrong and this incident went unintentionally. But intentionally or not, this is brutal. “Bomb-baits and Cruel wire snares are placed between the borders of jungles and villages. Wild animals are killed this way every day” said wildlife story Writer Pranav Capila.
