Ever wondered how people used to be awake before alarm clock was invented, mechanical alarm clocks were invented around 15th century, there are some various ways people opted to be awake before the era of alarm clock started
Nothing was a cake walk way back….
- 1) sounds funny!!! People used to drink lots of water before going to sleep, as we all face this issue , if we had watered our body we are scared to get disturbed for the nature call, but this was a most common technique in practice earlier and they even named it so called
“Bladder control method”
- 2) The religious places like temple, mosque and church would make sounds with audible tones, and some with bells. These were another type called
“religious wake-up calls”
- 3) The interesting one, The “Knocker -Up” this is a profession seen in Britain and Ireland before industrial revolution, This was Era where Alarm clocks were neither cheap nor reliable, the knocker up profession was to wake people, usually they used to hit house windows or doors with a stick audible enough to wake up. They had set up employment for this.
Now the question arises who woke up the Knocker upper?
Here it is !!!
These people were night owls, awake all night and used to sleep in the afternoon. The biggest problem for these guys is to make sure only people who paid for the services to be woken up.
Today all our needs are simplified by the technology,
Any desire is an opportunity.
No great ideas are created out of the box. Simple needs served in the best way possible would do wonders.
