Microsoft’s highly expected Windows 10X Operating System is launching on single-screen devices like notebooks, laptops and 2-in-1s soon. All new Windows 10X offers a new design, which includes an improved Start menu, taskbar tweaks, and there’s also an overhauled Action Center experience.
The Windows 10X comes with another special feature called ‘Composed Mode’, which transforms the user interface into a productivity-friendly interface. While 10X will bring a new Windows 10 experience, it’s actually a lot more than that, as it can do many basic functions differently than Windows10 does.
New User Interface (ui)
The 10X looks different, but what you expect about windows still works. It still has a file explorer, a taskbar, and a start menu, but there are some tweaks that blend elements of traditional Windows experience and Mobile Operating System’s.
Start menu has moved from the bottom left corner of screen toward the center and the application icons are center-aligned on the screen.
Windows 10X Dynamic Wallpapers
New 10X also comes with dynamic wallpapers, as an additional feature that would change wallpapers on various factors, also including the time of the day.
There will be at least one mountain view wallpaper that would change based on time zone of your region.
Allows Trusted-Signed Apps (Read-Only)
Unlike the Windows 10 you can’t edit, access, delete system files and customizing the operating system with Windows Registry or changing the look of the taskbar with third-party apps cannot be done on Windows 10X.
Windows 10X designed with high encryption, it can run only trusted apps downloaded from Windows Store or even outside the marketplace if those apps have an excellent stand. One can side-load apps from a random website, USB driver or any-other location, but the app should be trusted and signed.
No Windows Defender
This new version is read-only and it can run only the signed and trusted apps. This would block the malware and viruses from attacking the system. It’s not yet confirmed that whether the company plans to remove Windows Defender or reduces its capabilities.
Registry Cleaners
The 10X doesn’t allow users to improve Windows Registry or run registry cleaners. The apps within the system can only able to access certain libraries. For example, media app such as Flims & TV could access your media contents only as the Operating System requires apps to use a clear set of APIs.
App Updates
When you update large sized applications on Windows 10X, the system compares the hashes of every component against the update. During the comparison process, if a particular area of an app left untouched, that particular component won’t be downloaded again to make the app update faster and smaller to save your bandwidth data.
Privacy
A typical PC hardware including keyboards, mouse, printers, touchscreen should work as expected within the OS, but the privacy controls within the system would limit the behavior of certain hardware unless user allows it.
These limitations will affect the privacy sensitive hardware such as fingerprint scanner, camera. For Win32 apps, there are no per-application permissions. In the other words, if you turn off mic or camera access for Win32 platform, all the apps within Win32 will not have access to the mic and camera.
