Authentic Falafel Wraps: The Journey to the Middle East

Falafel is incomplete without its soulmate  hummus. Falafel is commonly served with hummus, tahini sauce and  salad. This also adds essence to the dish. In the Middle East, falafel is popularly presented as the sabich sandwich, a pita filled with eggplant, hard-boiled eggs, Israeli salad, hummus, and amba sauce. Falafel continues to be a go to snack for the people in the Middle East and you can almost find it in every neighbourhood.

Great ingredients are consistently the key to a great falafel. And you know what’s wonderful, that it is a vegan dish and  is prepared with everyday ingredients. You can make crispy falafel at home and have it taste just like it’s from the streets of the Middle east and I’m going to show you how to make it with only a handful of ingredients.

Preparation time- 40 mins

Wash the chickpea and soak them for 7-8 hours or overnight. After soaking, strain the water and transfer them into a food processor or mixer.

Further, include the remaining ingredients (except sesame seeds) and blend using pulse mode. Make sure to grind in intervals and continuously.

Open the jar lid and scrap the sides to grind evenly into a coarse mixture.

Add olive oil gradually while blending. Make sure the mixture is neither too coarse nor a paste.

Once the mixture is grinded coarsely, add flour and sesame seeds, mix well and refrigerate for 2-3 hour.

Remove the mixture from the refrigerator and add 1 tbsp. of baking soda and mix well. Dip your fingers in cold water and take a spoonful of mixture and shape it using mould or hands into a round patty.

Set a wok on medium flame and heat the oil, fry the patty in hot oil until it’s crisp and golden brown. Fry all the patties in the same way.

You can also prefer to bake the falafel for 25-30 mins. Carefully flipping the falafels through baking.
