A 23-year-old Chinese student identified as Xu accidentally found a loophole on KFC app back in April 2018 through which he got free food. He used coupons in one Kentucky Fried Chicken, KFC app to pay for food and after the order was done, he immediately redeemed his coupons using another app, namely WeChat.

Now, are you people thinking to do the same? Well, but the consequences are not going to be at your end. Let’s see what happened to him for doing so.

He then went on to share this loophole with four of his friends who then exploited the glitch. It was also reported by a local media house that he also sold food to people online for lesser prices by not paying a penny by himself at all. He further went on to resell the coupons online and then retrieved them back using his tricks.

Xu used the same trick for more than two years now and was successful in making KFC get a loss of over more than 31,000 dollars in which his friends had a share ranging from 1,400 to 7,300 dollars, according to the court.

All the Five students hailing from the Jiangsu district of China were sentenced to jail for a period of two and half years for reportedly taking advantage of a glitch in the KFC’s online food ordering system to get free food.

Xu is jailed for two and half years and four of his friends are jailed for a period of 9 to 13 months. They were also ordered to pay fines ranging from 150 to 930 dollars.

After the verdict, the news went viral on the Internet and the netizens were annoyed with the court’s judgment. They claimed that the students didn’t commit a bigger crime but took advantage of a loophole present in the system. They further said that KFC was equally responsible for not monitoring their glitches and rectifying them. “Though they did fraud and gained profits, jail sentences such as two and half years and 1,000s of dollars as fines were too harsh on them” mentioned a netizen.

The giant food brand, KFC is one of the most successful fast food places in China with over 7,000 outlets across the country.
