“We have arrested Sushil Kumar, who carried a reward of Rs 1 lakh, and Ajay Sherawat, who had a reward of Rs 50,000,” Delhi Police Spokesperson, Chinmoy Bishal, said.
The man who is used to flaunting medals in front of the camera was now hiding his face with the towel on Sunday in front of cameras. Sushil Kumar also called ‘Pehelwanji’ is an Olympic champion wrestler who has earned his respect with his incredible agility into the hearts of people.
“A team led by ACP Singh and Inspector Shiv Kumar made the arrest from outside Mundka metro station.
Sushil was driving a two-wheeler with Ajay riding pillion. They collected money from one of their associates but police laid a trap and arrested them,” the officer said.
The two-wheeler is registered in Delhi’s name. It was of a national level handball player who has been part of Indian’s women’s team as sources said.
According to police, Dhankar and his friends were living in a house of Kumar near stadium and the murder was because of some property dispute.
The 23-year-old man, Sagar Rana, was staying at the house owned by Sushil Kumar on rent, but he wasn’t paying the rent money. In the solution to that Sushil charged him to vacant the place, but an argument broke in between and he was killed by Sushil in the process.
Two men were assaulted along with him. The murder happened on May 5th. He was killed at Chhatrasal Stadium, the National capital. Sagar was also a former junior wrestler.
On Sunday, to the Delhi police, Sushil Kumar stated that he was present in the place where the incident took place and later on went back home.
He also claimed that he was running out of money, so he was about to collect it from someone when the police appeared and he and Ajay were nabbed by the cops.
For 3 weeks, Kumar the 38-year-old Olympic medalist was evading police arrest. Sushil and Ajay had both traveled six-state borders between Delhi, UP, Uttarakhand, Haryana, Chandigarh in the rush of the sneaking game.
Police were investing in them for quite some time because of abduction and criminal conspiracy due to the violent clash between two groups at Delhi’s wrestling academy.
Then he was arrested this Sunday morning. He along with his associate Ajay Kumar who is another wrestler got arrested, he was a kind of physical education teacher at the stadium.
Kumar and Sherawat both were sent to 6 days of police custody in Rohini court is now under Crime Branch.
