Tauktae cyclone to hit Mumbai today. This is the first cyclone that’s hitting Mumbai in 2021. The officials are prepared to face the cyclone as the IMD said “Cyclone Tauktae is very likely to intensify further into a very severe cyclonic storm during next 12 hours and intensify further. It is very likely to move north-northwestwards and reach Gujarat coast in the morning of 18th or earlier and cross Gujarat coast between Porbandar and Naliya around 18th May Afternoon or evening.”
Currently, Gujarat and Diu coasts are under a cyclone watch and Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a review meeting on Saturday evening.
National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) is monitoring the five states i.e., Maharastra, Gujarat, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and Kerala with more than fifty teams. As some areas in and around Mumbai have seen heavy rainfall on Saturday, the western railways have canceled all the trains between Gujarat and Maharastra.
The islands of Lakshadweep are also warned and they are likely to hit by floods due to heavy rains. The low-lying areas in Kerala state have been evacuated and around 320 buildings have been set up as relief camps.
National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has already moved to Mumbai to tackle the heavy rains as the COVID-19 in Mumbai has already damaged a lot and the situation is worse in the state. NDRF has placed 15 teams in Gujarat, 18 teams in Maharastra, 3 teams in Karnataka, 8 teams in Tamil Nadu, and 9 teams in Kerala. 29 teams are at stand-by.
