One Nation, One Ration Card Scheme by Delhi Government

The Delhi Cabinet on Monday decided to implement the “One Nation, One Ration Card” plan after a longing fight of words between the Centre and Delhi Government. The deadline to implement the scheme was till July 31st, as said by the Supreme Court of India.

Earlier there were a lot of tussles between the BJP government slamming AAP for not implementing the policy. The migrant workers faced a huge problem earlier. The scam of ration, the ration mafia gang, was that powerful which earlier led Arvind Kejriwal to cancel the PoS system.

It was because four lakh ration cards were seized and the people who were the worst sufferers of it were the migrant workers because they had to return with no food from the food distribution centres. The PoS machines were not working properly and were not checked by the government.

Now with the implementation of this scheme the card holders are enabled to get their monthly ration from the Fair Price Shops in the country and in turn it will be very helpful for the migrant workers who will be benefiting from the scheme of Public Distribution from anywhere in the country.

The Public Distribution card holders for July will get free ration under this scheme. It will be a phase wise way with the help of the POS biometric authentication at all the FPS shops in Delhi.

Ration cards under the national food security act will be allowed to get their monthly ration essentials and necessities from any food price shops anywhere in the country.

The ePoS machines will be based on Aadhaar Card biometric authentication which is used to verify the identity of the people who come in for ration. This will further enable the government to not fall into the trap of the ration mafia which happened in 2018 in Delhi that had detrimental effects on the genuine people and the migrant workers.

The Supreme Court in their order stated that there will be a trial of 50 transactions through the e- PoS devices so that any technical glitches can be corrected before continuing with the scheme. The success of the scheme depends on how the government handles the technical difficulties so that the process of giving out ration to the needy people runs smoothly and everybody is benefited from it.
